REGENTS CHEMISTRY - COURSE INFORMATION for STUDENTS AND PARENTS

I. ATTENDANCE POLICY

Students are expected to come to class everyday. Attendance is taken daily. Class absences detract from a students ability to master the subject matter and do well on tests. If a student is absent, it is his or her responsibility to make up the work. Students are also required to provide their teacher with a note for excused absences.

II. LATENESS POLICY

Students are expected to be on time for class. If a student is late, it is his or her responsibility to make up any work. Students are also required to provide their teacher with a note for excused latenesses.

III. CLASS PREPARATION

Students are expected to come to class academically prepared, which means that homework is completed, previous class notes have been reviewed and any reading assignments have been fulfilled. Students are also required to bring a notebook to class every day along with writing instruments and a scientific calculator.

IV. HOMEWORK POLICY

Homework will be assigned regularly. It will consist of reading, solving word problems, answering questions in the textbook and/or completing assignments in the regents review book. It is required that students bring their notebook and regents review book to class every day and bring them home with them every night.

V. EXAMINATION POLICY

Students will have at least two exams per marking period along with a final exam at the end of the term. Exams will be given on Mondays or Tuesdays and will be announced about a week before the date of the exam. Students may also have any number of surprise quizzes given anytime without notice.

VI. LABORATORY POLICY

Laboratory is a critical part of the course. Students are required to attend each and every laboratory session, and students must submit a completed laboratory manual to their teacher at the end of each term. In order to sit for the Regents Exam in June, students are required to complete 1200 minutes of laboratory work, which means students must participate in a minimum of 8 double period laboratory sessions each term and receive a satisfactory rating for both terms.
